Virtual Staging Software

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of virtual staging? Are you looking for a “do-it-all” software that will let you just drag and drop furniture into your photos? Well, unfortunately virtual staging isn’t that easy. Many people often ask us what software we use to do what we do. This article will shed a little light on how it’s all done. We’ve done a lot of investigating, research and development planning to find the highest quality virtual staging possible and this is what we found…

The Talent

There are a lot of things that go into a good quality virtual staging and there is no single piece of software that is capable of making the complex image manipulations on it’s own. Our most valuable resource for virtual staging is our team of talented designers. Virtual Staging Solutions employs a team of highly skilled and trained graphic designers and home stagers, that use a collection of different photo editing and 3D rendering tools. The software we use ranges from $2,500 to $18,000, as you can imagine this can be some pretty complex software with a steep learning curve. Most of our designers have 5+ years of experience working with the software. Our designers are first required to go through a 1-3 week internal training program that allows us to assess their skills and teaches them how to use our collection of software to create the highest quality virtual staging.

Design Factors

We’ve seen some people claiming to sell “virtual staging software” but really all they are selling is a generic collage making software and a few furniture images with only 1-2 different angles. As you can imagine this solution will create a lot of problems when you try to insert furniture at the correct perspective, an image of the front of a couch will not work in many rooms unless you want the couch directly in the middle of the photo without any variation in perspective or have the slightest degree of an angle.

The major design factors our designers have to account for are perspective, ensuring that the furniture matches up with the perspective and vanishing points of the room. They also need to account for light sources and consider the differences between natural and artificial light and how it will cast onto the furniture in the room to create highlights.

The light sources also play a major role in determining shadows and shadows are one of the most important factors in creating a realistic effect. Most generic graphic design tools and collage software can not make shadows or if they can, they can only make simple drop shadows that makes the furniture look like it has a black glow around it. This type of software is also not capable of evaluating the lighting of a room which is why they will cause the finished product to look like a cartoon instead of being photo-realistic.

This is why we’ve created our virtual staging service, to take all of the complex, hard work out of virtual staging for you. Simply send us your photos and you’re done, for only $197 you can get started today.

These are just a few of the hundreds of factors that need to be addressed during virtual staging, we hope this article answers the questions you have about virtual staging software and also sheds a light on the thought process and hard work that goes into what our designers do to provide you with the highest quality of virtual staging.

This software is absolutely what I was looking for. I haven’t read all through your site, so my question may be redundent.
I would like to know where I can purchase this type or software, so I may learn to use it myself. Is it possible to learn quickly with this type of software or is it years of training? I look forward to hear from you
    Cynthia

I am interested in Virtual Staging Software to offer my clients. I wonder if you are offering the Virtual Staging service or if you actually sell the software to small business owners. Also, do you offer training?

    Thank You,

      Hi Michelle & Cynthia,
You may have missed some things in this article, I suggest you read it again. The main point being that there is no “virtual staging” software. We use a wide variety of different software that takes years of training and a special database. None of which we are selling. Virtual staging is simply a service that we offer.

There are a lot of things that go into a good quality virtual staging and there is no single piece of software that is capable of making the complex image manipulations on it’s own. Our most valuable resource for virtual staging is our team of talented designers.

      I hope that helps.

      Best Regards,
      Bryan

I’d like to become a virtual designer for your organization. What credentials, criteria etc. do you require? How can I prepare myself for employment with your company?

    Thank you!

Bryan, I suggest you sell your business within the next three years, because the software you lack will be widely available by then.

    • http://virtualstagingsolutions.com Bryan

I’m not sure I agree with you. It’s not that we “lack software”, in fact we have a lot of software that we use. The point is that most of our clients do not want to spend months or years learning how to use software just so they can virtually stage a few photos. We also experiment with easier solutions with less of learning curve but there are some things that a computer still can not calculate. It will be many, many years before technology advances to the point of being able to create as realistic of photos. We’ve been leading the virtual staging industry for over 3 years now and once we feel that we can release a single piece of software that can do this without sacrificing quality, we will. But for now, most of our clients are not very tech-savy or do not have the time do it themselves which makes our service perfect for them.

      Thanks for the feedback!

  • Martin

Hi, my name is Martin. I am a student of scenography in Warsaw (academy of Fine Arts), and I am looking for the right kind of software to make stage sets as realistic and active as possible. And my question is the same as many others I presume, but I would like to know which programs you use in here for these fantastic looking 3D renderings! I have already purchased both the Adobe CS5, and Office but I just have 3D programs shareware (like Sketchup), but realise I have to get more advanced software to accomplish something in this direction. I was actually working a little with Maya a couple of years ago, but as I find it really complicated, I just wonder if you have a tip on easier achievement programs..?
Simple question: what do you use, and what do you recommend for staging graphics solutions?

And 3D renderring with structures and lighting effects..

    Kind regards,
    Martin :)

(Btw, I have a Mac, are these programs you use for the OSX too, or just 4 Windows..?)

  • Kirstin

I would be interested in hearing your response to Martin as I have been a home stager for a while, but I am looking to develop my business around the virtual aspect.
Recently, I have considered graphic design and web development as possible education avenues, but I am hesitant to invest until I know what I really need to do. Do you recommend training in AutoCAD at all?

Any information and advice you would be willing to give would be really appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  • Larry

Your service is awesome! I am a graphic designer and motion graphics artist. I understand how complicated and time consuming doing these photos are. It’s amazing that people just assume that you can click and drag a 3D object into a photo and everything just “lines up”. There are perspectives to consider, light sources and shadows just to name a few of the things to consider when compositing. The ability to do all of this and create a photo realistic image takes years of practice, and is it’s own degree in many colleges.
I am also blown away that people are asking how to do this, and for advice as to how to do it on their own. There are forums for that all over the internet. Don’t ask a business owner to tell you how to do exactly what they have spent years developing the skills to do. Would you ask a dentist how to fill your own cavity? I think it is rude to ask someone their trade secrets in an open forum like this.
Anyways, great work on this website. Photos look great! Kepp up the good work!

    Aloha,

I’m an architectural photographer here in Hawaii and yes I do have clients that give me empty homes to shoot. Do you have a choice of furniture styles I can show my clients?

  • Candyh1

Hi, can you put up walls in new construction before they are actually up. Then put furniture in. Thanks, Candy

    • http://virtualstagingsolutions.com Bryan

We can. This would normally involve us recreating the photograph (or we can even do it from a floor plan), it takes a few extra days and we generally charge about $80 extra per photo. Feel free to send us your photos and we’ll let you know exactly what we can do. http://virtualstagingsolutions.com/contact/
